Spaas Candles achieves sustainability certification Ecovadis Gold

After 2 years of receiving a silver medal, Spaas Candles may accept the gold medal from EcoVadis in 2023. That's a handsome leap forward! This places Spaas Candles among the top 5% of best performing companies worldwide in terms of sustainability within the label.

EcoVadis is an independent body that assesses companies worldwide in terms of sustainable and socially responsible business practices.

EcoVadis recognises Spaas Candles' performance in four crucial areas:

Environment
Labour and human rights
Ethics
Sustainable procurement

Every year EcoVadis' assessment becomes more stringent, progress within this certification is a handsome but certainly not a given.

‘The gold medal confirms that Spaas is a reliable partner, working every day to balance economic, social and environmental values. In this rapidly evolving society, close cooperation with stakeholders is essential for finding innovative solutions to various challenges. Our role includes supporting customers and consumers in making informed consumption decisions. Sustainability report

So we published our first sustainability report to start the conversation around sustainability, and to invite customers and suppliers to join in.

After all, our mission statement sums up our ambition perfectly: ‘Light up your life’. How do we do this? By being fully committed to sustainable and responsible business.

In our sustainability report, we showcase our environmental, social and governance (ESG) performance and initiatives and our passion for innovation. Furthermore, we also share our goals for the future.

Quality and sustainability go hand in hand

With the gold medal from EcoVadis, Spaas Kaarsen proves that quality can also go hand in hand with sustainability and corporate responsibility.

Quality Manger Lore Alders shares: ‘Quality is the result of the continuous improvement of all processes within a company. Achieving EcoVadis gold, which places us among the top 5% of best companies in terms of the quality of our sustainability management, is a great reflection of everyone's daily commitment to achieving the intended level of quality.’

In addition to EcoVadis certification, Spaas Candles has already obtained several other quality-related certificates. Think RAL, BRC Consumer Products, ISO 9001 and others. This way, quality and sustainability reinforce each other, and the road is open to continuous improvement.

CEO Ben Spaas says: ‘Sustainability has become one of the company's strategic anchors. We aim for clear governance structures to guide our actions and ambitions, and successful integration of sustainability into our operations. Therefore, we have established a roadmap with short-, medium- and long-term goals. EcoVadis Gold certification is a great step in this process.’
