Five unique ways to light up your living space
Your living space, your house is a place to really come home and relax. Where you have the most intimate conversations with loved ones or where you find peace, sunk deep in a book. How do you create a cosy living space? Make it extra atmospheric thanks to these 5 tips.
- Make use of different shapes
What definitely makes a living space cosy? Different shapes throughout the room. If you only choose rectangular-shaped items, they will quickly look ordered and not cosy. If you opt purely for round shapes, that can look chaotic. Go for a good mix of different shapes to create a soft, cosy whole.
A rounded sofa with a rectangular coffee table, for example. Nice and cosy!
- Choose a warm colour palette
One way to bring warmth into your home is through colour. Think carefully about your colour palette, what do you want your living space to radiate? An inviting space where you like to snuggle under a blanket or have friends over?
Choosing colours that are too safe, like white for example, is a common mistake when decorating your living space. White brings in a lot of light and makes your space look bigger. Balance it with warm tones such as beige, pink, brown, peach, yellow, terracotta or copper to create a soft atmosphere.
- Integrate cosy lighting
It's no secret that lighting makes a big difference in your living space. Do you know the TikTok trend: ‘We never use the big light’? In recent years, fewer and fewer people are fans of large lamps fixed to the ceiling, especially in cosy spaces like the living or dining room. The reason? It looks less cosy and it creates harsh shadows.
So how do you ensure a cosy space and pleasant feeling? By providing other types of lighting. Think wall lamps, table lamps with warm light and the glow of candles. Combine them for a guaranteed cosy space. - Complete the room with accessories
Picture the following: light curtains, a soft carpet at your feet, a handsome green plant in the corner and the flickering light of a candle burning in front of you on the coffee table. Catchy home accessories do make a difference and really dress up your space. Atmospheric candelabras and a beautiful framed print make for a dressed-up and cosy space. In most cases, they are also conversation starters, allowing you to really connect with your conversation partner.
- A world of difference: scent
Nothing is as pleasant as a living space that smells good. Did you already know that we process smells in our brain in the same area as our emotions? Our sense of smell is inextricably linked to it. If we want to evoke a calm and serene feeling, it is best to also adapt the smell to this feeling. You can achieve this by cleaning regularly, airing and using a scented candle or scented sticks.
